USA

MAXIM currently owns and operates five plants in the United States producing 433 MW, which represents 53% of MAXIM's nameplate capacity.

MAXIM’s strategy in the northeastern United States has been to acquire undervalued power plants during a period of market-structure uncertainty. Capacity markets have developed in both ISO New England and PJM. As a result, we are seeing increased valuations for more recent acquisitions.

With four power plant acquisitions in this market, MAXIM has avoided the development risks inherent in new projects, along with costly delays.

The growing eastern United States market is of increasing interest to MAXIM. We expect that emerging positive market fundamentals such as demand growth and improving market heat rates will translate into acquisition opportunities. We also anticipate that fragmented ownership of the power market could present further consolidation opportunities.
