MAXIM's asset base in Canada includes two plants in Alberta with a total capacity of 156.5 MW. These assets provide a significant competitive development advantage – in particular, the existing coal-fired plant (HR Milner) that allows MAXIM to leverage benefits including electrical connection, fuel delivery, water licenses and a skilled operations team.

In Alberta, independent forecasts suggest electricity demand will increase at a rate of 2% per year (200 MW per year). At the same time, aging generating facilities in the province will be retired.

In addition, MAXIM is creating diversity in its Alberta asset portfolio by pursuing highly select, early-stage investment opportunities with long lead-times and significant upside potential.
