Alberta Power Project (APP)

Constructed and commissioned by MAXIM in 2001, the 26.5 MW APP consists of four separate facilities in southern Alberta: Taber, Burdett , Coaldale and Fort MacLeod.

Each site includes four to eight individual generator sets (gensets); each genset is capable of exporting 1,060 kilowatts to the Fortis 25 kV distribution grid. Every genset has its own transformer and can run independently of the other units. Plants are fuelled by natural gas.

In 2004, MAXIM entered into a  long-term agreement with AltaGas Limited Partnership. In exchange for a fixed annual fee, AltaGas has the right to operate the APP.  In 2007, AltaGas took over the operations and maintenance of all facilities and generation equipment.
